As a skincare professional I love popping pimples as much as, if not more than, the next guy but the truly exciting and challenging work comes in the Fall when I am faced with all the sundamage inflicted over the Summer. I love the cooler months when we can really pamper and polish the skin in earnest, and peel, peel, peel away!
The first thing I would do is make an appointment at Spascape Day Spa for a Sea C Spa restorative facial. Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant known to help repair not only sundamage but environmental damage of any sort (pay attention here, you smokers!). But the wonderful thing about our Sea C facial is that it combines the antidotal ability of vitamin C with healing ingredients from the sea, such as algae and thermal organic mud. This is the facial to ask for if you really want to get your glow on!
For the next visit I would recommend getting a microdermabrasion treatment - preferably even sign up for a series of them. I am in love with microdermabrasion and literally pine for it over the Summer when I choose not to do any clinical exfoliation. If you've never had microdermabrasion I highly suggest you try it. It doesn't hurt at all and I actually find the soft vacuming sensation to be soothing. Despite its kind of intimidating sounding name, it is actually not too harsh - even my sensitive skin can handle it. Microdermabrasion is the way to go to thoroughly get rid of dead skin cells and even out surface discoloration and texture. However, if your sundamage has been apparent for years and years and you are only just now doing something about it, it's going to be tough. Not necessarily impossible, but tough. I don't mean to put you off here, my point is that it is best to act promptly at the first signs of damage and even act pre-emptively with things like the Sea C Spa facial and of course gobs of sunscreen.
If the idea of microdermabrasion still puts you off then at least come in for a glycolic peel. A peel is a less expensive way to go, and while one peel will make your skin silky soft and glowy, a series of peels can help reduce uneven skin tone. I like to get a peel on a regular basis during the less sunny months, just because it is such a fabulous way to speed up the skin cell turnover rate and slow down the aging process.
While the Summer was all about protecting the skin, let this time of year be about rejuvenating it. Give us a call today and book an appointment for whatever repair work you decide to do (781)545-1200.
